About This Project

Kenepuru and Central Sounds Residents Association (KCSRA) is a community group in the Marlborough Sounds, 50+ km from the nearest towns. The area was clear-felled in the 19th Century and used for farming until the mid 20th century. It is now slowly reverting to native bush. Pine trees (insignis and radiata) were originally planted for windbreaks and now in some areas for commercial plantations. Wilding pines occur throughout the region and affect soil conditions, limit the recovery of native forest.

Following a successful program by the Marlborough Sounds Restoration Trust in Queen Charlotte Sound, KCSRA is currently raising funds for a wilding pines management plan to be completed by September 2010, to be folowed by fundraising for implementation.
