As an escaped IP lawyer I started concentrating on commercialising kool New Zealand technologies about 6 years ago - things like www.syft.com and www.vortexdna.com . This has meant that I spend a lot of time in the USA and I got to 'see' the whole climate change/ cleantech trend starting. I liked the fact that there weren't any rules and so decided to start working on some potential solutions - ones with global impact....things like: Bio-crude oil from wild algae - www.aquaflowgroup.com : Charcoal from waste biomass for carbon sequestration - www.carbonscape.com : and the whole idea that individuals can/ may well hold a significant key to climate change - that the interent is the ideal space to let it all happen - something that became www.celsias.com . Yep, I'm one of the team that got this all going..... Life is fun, I sort of do the hobbit thing and live in a small seaside village - Picton - and then spring into the world from there.....on a sunny day my office is a classic speedboat.....

I absolutely agree with your comment Nick, China are definitely in a unique position to lead the world in sustainable technologies, due to their 'unique' political system. In fact, some of the work they've done around their 'new' cities is outstanding. I'm not sure if you're seen it, but they have an almost zero footprint city design waiting to go ahead. They took space currently used for rice paddies, but because of the food issue there, the whole city was designed with rice paddy roofs, with interlinking bridges - brilliant. Even if we were in the unique position to be building cities from scratch, I doubt we'd get anywhere near that level of design.
