
Joanne Tunna is a Corporate Sustainability specialist, quickly gaining recognition as an expert in this field. Joanne is currently responsible for the overall coordination of the Corporate Sustainability Group at North Shore City Council, widely recognised as the most sustainable council in New Zealand, as well as managing the wide variety of projects they are responsible for.
Among other things, Joanne is responsible for progressing several key citywide and in-house sustainability initiatives, including waste minimisation, energy management, carbon accounting, sustainability report development and LED lighting research and trials. Joanne also works at a regional level on the Regional Response to Climate Change working group and technical board, as well as the Sustainability and subsequent Procurement workstreams for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Joanne is also actively involved in training and education on Sustainability, working with a number of university student groups, including NEXUS and AISEC.
Prior to working for North Shore City, Joanne worked as a Sustainability Advisor for Auckland City Council where she coordinated a number of waste minimisation and sustainable procurement initiatives, as well as playing a key educatory and advocacy role across the organisation.
Joanne also played an integral advisory role on the Sustainable Homes Programme at the EcoMatters Environment Trust. The programme is aimed at achieving lasting behaviour change and is focussed on four key areas of sustainable living, namely energy efficiency, water use, waste minimisation and transportation.
