About Me

An innovative new paper, made from stone.

Rockstock is a high quality, coated paper with outstanding environmental values.

Rockstock's unique properties makes it suitable for a wide variety of purposes.

Rockstock has superior printing values and is available in sizes and weights of traditional, wood fibre papers. It's also:

* Strong and tear resistant - perfect for books, carry bags and uses where strength is an advantage.
* Won't crack or white line on folds - suitable for maps and brochures.
* Waterproof - great for maps, outdoor displays, golf score cards, envelopes, pads etc.
* Durable under low temperatures - excellent for freezer food packaging (FDA).
* Moth and insect proof.
* Food grade - for food storage and packaging.
* Greaseproof
* Mistproof

Rockstock's unique attributes

Rockstock, a brand of rich mineral paper (RMP) has a number of unique environmental attributes:

* It has a low CO2 emission profile
* It beneficially reuses a waste stream.
* It's manufacture does not pollute waterways and rivers with toxic effluent
* It's manufacture uses relatively little energy.

It is estimated that the production of 1 ton of RMP means:

* Low carbon emission
* 7480 gallons of fresh water saved
* reduction of CO2 release
* 19.05 Kg water borne waste not produced
* 107.05 Kg atmospheric emissions eliminated
* 6 million BTU's energy not consumed

Carbon Footprint

Because growing trees sequesters greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere; harvesting trees to produce wood fibre paper creates a carbon footprint.

Rockstock's carbon footprint is further reduced because its manufacture uses approximately half the energy of making virgin pulp paper and approximately a third the energy of recycled pulp paper.

Rockstock uses only electricity for its production.

Recycling Rockstock

Rockstock is a paper made using stone offcuts, & waste recycled from the construction industry in the form of unsuitable small rock pieces and broken stone tiles that are ground down to a white powder (Calcium Carbonate). This powder is infused with a non-toxic PE resin to form Rockstock.

Rockstock should be recycled through the category 2 recycling stream.
Rockstock is not plastic nor is it pulp paper. This can be easily demonstrated by burning a sheet of Rockstock, which produces a natural chalky residual of calcium carbonate. Because calcium carbonate is used as a filler in plastics, it is a useful addition to the category 2 plastic recycling stream. If Rockstock inadvertently enters the paper recycling stream it will be separated and diverted to the category 2 stream or may be burned in a furnace to provide energy without toxic fumes or damage to the furnace.

Rockstock is also photo-degradable, reverting to calcium carbonate(stone powder) in extended sunshine(approx 1 year for paper and 4 years for board) and the resin is absorbed by the atmosphere without harmful effects. As it photo-degrades, it looks and feels like broken egg shells that continue to crack into smaller pieces until stone powder residue (CaCO3) is left.

Note: Rockstock will not break down in your home or office when kept indoors and away from direct sunlight. Paper that can breakdown properly can let us enjoy both an extraordinary product without having to worry about waste management. Attaining the correct balance to control the speed of breakdown is vital. The good news is, with today’s technology we can attain just that!

Rockstock can be recycled by converting the used paper back into pellets and then

be remade into coloured paper. This is a simple process, but as yet we do not have a collection channel in Australasia to send the waste paper back to the Mill for recycling, but is an opportunity for the future.

Significantly these various fates for the used product consume significantly less energy and no water compared to that required to recycle wood fibre paper. Furthermore, unlike paper recycling, the process generates no effluent or toxic wastes.

Rockstock is endorsed by Environmental Defence. Its components and manufacturing process is certified by FDA and ROHS as being harmless to human health, plants and animals.
(Note: Please take appropriate fire safety precautions if testing the burning qualities
of Rockstock)

* No timber consumption
* No water consumption
* No chemical bleaching
* No hazardous waste
