Why we exist...
We provide the world’s most disadvantaged producers with support to improve their lives, by buying and selling their products under fairer trading terms, telling their stories and speaking out for greater justice in world trade.
What makes us unique...
Producers are at the heart of everything we do - Our focus is, and always has been, firmly on the well being of our producers. As a not-for-profit organisation we are 100% committed to supporting the people we trade with – the world’s most disadvantaged. We believe that trade, if organised and regulated fairly, can help the world’s poor lift themselves out of poverty and provide them with the hope of brighter futures.
Leaders in fair trade - We have been leading the fair trade movement in New Zealand since 1973. We are active and vocal members of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), an international body of organisations who are 100% committed to fair trade. We work to ensure that the standards of fair trade remain high and that producers’ voices are heard. We set a high standard for ourselves and then challenge others to do the same.
More than fair trade - To us, fair trade doesn't just mean paying a fair price, it is an entirely different way of doing business. We use a combination of direct trading, development work, campaigning and education in our fair trade practices. We provide business improvement funds and as a not-for-profit organisation we share our profits with our partners. We focus on bringing positive change to producers’ lives through long-term partnerships that help them become self-reliant and create sustainable communities.
Proof through transparency - We provide extensive proof for our producers, our supporters and our customers through audited social accounts to show we do what we say we do.
Passionate for change - We want to see better lives for the world’s most disadvantaged. We seek to understand the problems our producers face and we share this by speaking out and telling New Zealanders their stories and about injustices in world trade so that consumers can help bring about change.
