Wrexham County Borough Council has said it will begin fitting the 3,000 homes with photovoltaic (PV) panels, and it claims that this will be one of the largest projects of its kind in the UK.

The scheme will derive financial support from the 18million pound regeneration fund and will use Feed-in-Tariffs.The scheme is due for completion in March next year and it is estimated to save up to 2,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Council chief executive, Dr Helen Paterson, said: "This is a hugely significant project for the Council with an estimated value of 60 million pounds. Such investment demonstrates our commitment to reduce carbon emissions and energy use, whist also tackling fuel poverty. The added benefit of this project is the income that will be generated by taking advantage of FITs."

Schools and other community buildings centres will also be fitted with the panels,

Wow ! Impressive action.
