Want a different take on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill? How about an outer space perspective? This NASA time-lapse video shows the progression of the spill from the day the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, April 20, through to May 24.

MODIS instruments aboard the NASA Terra and Aqua satellites were used to capture the images. The oil slick appears grayish-beige in these images and the shape of the spill changes due to weather conditions, currents and the use of oil-dispersing chemicals.
