Gap Filler who the people of Christchurch have come to know and love, is undertaking its most ambitious project yet. A Summer Pallet Pavilion on the former Crown Plaza site.
The Pavilion will be used for live music and community events and seeks to draw people back to the city as push as showcase some of the possibilities of transitional architecture. Victoria Square will be re-opened soon too, so access to the park will be through the former Crown Plaza site.
The Pavilion will be built by volunteers! It's a big job and we need your help to do it.
The build will be overseen by Higgs Builders, onsite training will be provided and we have your safety at heart. The pavilion will be a space for you, built BY you. We think that's pretty cool. So set aside some of the following dates to be involved:
WHERE: the former Crowne Plaza site, Cnr Kilmore and Durham Sts, city
WHEN: Tuesday 30 October - Friday 17 November, days, evenings and weekends.
Ideally we will work daily MONDAY to SUNDAY in blocks like this:
8am – 12pm morning
1pm – 5pm afternoon
6pm – 10pm evening
IMPORTANT - to be involved we need a minimum time commitment of 4 hours (i.e. one of these blocks of time). Heavy lifting will be required if you are involved in the build. Landscaping work will be lighter and will include potting up and planting out.
- drilling holes
- lifting pallets
- plant preparation
- landscaping tasks
- furniture building
- having fun! :)
You need a high-vis vest, hard hat (if you have them), gloves and good, sturdy shoes. Steel caps preferred. We can supply high-vis and hard hats if you don’t have them, but prefer you bring your own. You can’t be on site without this stuff! Please bring your own gardening (hand)tools.
