New Zealand’s first Sustainable City Showcase will pop up in November - but it will only last three days.
The sustainable pop-up city in the heart of Auckland will feature the latest designs, products and technology that are making Kiwi companies world leaders in environmentally aware and sustainable business practice.
The Sustainable City Showcase will be the key attraction at a three-day expo run by the Sustainable Business Network from November 22-24.
SBN chief executive Rachel Brown says visitors can walk through different areas of the pop-up city of the future and experience it as a future resident or business person.
The showcase city will feature displays from 120 companies and is expected to attract thousands of visitors from around New Zealand and overseas.
“Sustainable City Showcase 2012 gives people the chance to experience urban life in the not-so-distant future,” says Ms Brown.
There will be something for everyone – business professionals, entrepreneurs, urban designers, families, students,, importers and exporters, and visitors to Auckland and New Zealand. People can see 120 sustainable solutions, be inspired by talks, engage in interactive workshops and forums, and learn about emerging technologies.
“Kiwis already have a great reputation worldwide for producing top-quality goods and services as well as being clean, green and business-savvy. This expo gives our businesses the chance to show how to run a successful and profitable business, with minimal impact on the environment,” she says.
Another unique feature is a “long lunch” with a difference: a three-hour feast where business leaders can network, hear about the latest opportunities in sustainability from corporate executives, and enjoy fine Kiwi food and wine.
“This is the ideal expo for businesses to show New Zealand, and the world, how they are putting sustainable business into practice. It’s not just for business entrepreneurs with a social conscience, it’s for everyone who is interested in working and living more sustainably.”
The three-day Sustainable City Showcase, from November 22-24, will be held in the Cloud on Queens Wharf, where the highly successful Rugby World Cup 2011 events attracted huge crowds, including thousands of international visitors. The Showcase will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday.
