The Northern Advocate reports that" Far North Mayor Wayne Brown will go prospecting at a mining industry convention in Canada to draw international attention to Northland's mineral resources.
The Far North's stake at the convention in March is expected to cost around $16,500.
The message Mr Brown will give from a booth shared with the New Zealand Government and businesses is that the Far North District Council welcomes investors in mining and is open for business.
Mr Brown's trip to the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada conference at the invitation of the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), is heavily based on the findings of a yet-to-be released survey of Northland's mineral resources.
Mr Brown said he was unable to comment until a joint statement was released by Ministry of Economic Development and the Northland Minerals Group, via Enterprise Northland.
He has rejected suggestions the trip is a junket. He is spokesman for the Northland Mineral Group and is the Far North, Kaipara, Whangarei and Northland Regional Councils' representative on the group"
And if you wondered who was paying for this alongside the ratepayers of the Far North District, it's all of us! Yay- We so wanted to be spending tax dollars getting mines into this country. The MED will host a stand at the conference, with Mr Brown touting Northland's potential, hidden wealth. And also sharing the booth will be New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, GNS Science and others. So you the taxpayer are out there seeking mining aggressively ....and the Government seems to be hell bent on getting as many mining licenses onshore and offshore...
But remind me, where is the Labour Party on this issue?

That's revolting ! Have we learned nothing?
