Greenpeace Host Palm Oil Public Meeting

Greenpeace and the Indonesia Human Rights Organisation are holding a public meeting next Tuesday, in order to discuss issues surrounding the Palm Oil trade. The meeting will be held at Auckland University in lecture theatre 404 of the Engineering Building from 7 - 8.30pm.

palm oil Greenpeace say the aim is to draw attention to the campaign to stop unsustainable imports from the palm industry and protect the old growth forests and people of Indonesia.

Speakers will include: Greenpeace New Zealand climate campaigner Simon Boxer, Indonesia Human Rights Committee (IHRC) spokesperson Maire Leadbeater and Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty who is sponsoring a new bill in parliament to combat deforestation.

They will be joined by Hauraki farmer Max Purnell who recently travelled to Indonesia to assess the impact of Fonterra’s palm kernel imports.

The issue of Palm Oil use has been in the media a lot recently- in particular the use of oil in Cadbury's chocolate and the use of palm oil by-products in feeds for dairy herds.
