Ever wondered what actor Kevin Costner (of Dances with Wolves and, er, Waterworld fame) has been up to? If we told you he was playing a role in what could potentially help solve the oil spill conundrum in the Gulf of Mexico, would you believe us?
For many years and following the Exxon Valdez spill, Costner has invested in, and been promoting, a piece of technology that now looks set to be used in the oil spill cleanup. Whether it will be effective remains to be seen. But in the meantime, details of the technology can be read in the US patent that was granted to inventor David Meikrantz in 1998, and subsequently assigned to Costner Industries Nevada, Inc.
The abstract of US Patent 5762800 for a Centrifugal Separator is shown below. If you would like to receive a copy of the full patent specification, please email Anton.Blijlevens@ajpark.com
