It's taken till 9pm tonight to be able to get anywhere near the opening of the Restart project which encompasses Cashel Mall from the Bridge of Remembrance to Colombo Street. So the pictures are taken in the dark.
Earlier in the day traffic was too heavy to get anywhere near it.
And how exciting. Containers- that we have come to know and love in Christchurch as capable of anything, have been transformed into a shopping precinct. Clothes stores alongside Ballantynes, coffee, and the very famous Johnson's Grocery store.

Christchurch people , who have not been allowed into this part of the city for more than 8 months, were delighted to be able to reclaim a part of their city - a very different part .

Hard not to feel as you walked down there that it could now spur other sections around it into action , although even the rest of the mall has to wait until some seriously large buildings are demolished.

It's so exciting to go back in there...it's busy and buzzy...and it's open.Feels great. The Restart team who pulled it together have done an awesome job.
