SoapNuts as natural detergent replacement, 27°

Image by Dunja Balmer

Soapnuts or Soapberry, also sometimes referred to as Washing Nuts or Wash Berry, are fruits that grow on trees. These fruits contain a natural substance called Saponin, which when dissolved in water, creates mild suds that are very similar to soap. This soapy substance has remarkable detergent properties, easily replacing normal laundry washing detergents. It works effectively by removing dirt and dissolving oils from clothes and other surfaces.

What are SoapNuts?
Soapnuts are a safe, non-allergenic and eco-friendly washing solution for you and your family. Soapnuts are biodegradable, compostable, have minimal packaging, and are sustainably grown. There are no hidden extras; no added chemicals, fragrances or fillers. Soapnuts are recommended for allergy, eczema and psoriasis sufferers. Used as a shampoo, soapnuts also control dandruff.

Why Soapnuts?
Because they are:

* 100% natural ingredients
* Bio-degradable
* Compostable
* Environmentally Friendly
* Not tested on Animals
* Reusable
* Affordable
* Good for you

These little nuts are amazing, I don't use them for heavy soiled items but they are fantastic to pop in your wash for any lightly soiled items. Pop a couple in your food processor or blender with some water and watch the froth spin around and get soapy! Have yet to try them in my hair though!

For your heavy soiled items, you could pre-soak them in Oxygen Bleach - 100% sodium percarbonate and then wash with SoapNuts. Or do a warm/hot wash and use SoapNuts.
