List items on http://www.freecycle.co.nz instead of throwing them away
Did this to get rid of a load of packing boxes after I had moved house, it was great and the response was amazing. I also advertised for a bookcase but nothing came of it but it doesnt stop me from asking again from time to time or checking to see if any other member has one that they want to get rid of. Its a great site and I strongly reccomend it.
