Make a rag rug, 17°

When your old clothes are too worn out to keep wearing, and too scruffy to give away, turn them into a brand new trendy decor item - a rag rug! I made my first rag rug the other day and found it surprisingly quick to do - and the result is surprisingly attractive. I will be making more!

There are lots of how-to instructions on the Net, but here's the basic idea:
1) Collect lots of old fabric (dresses, pyjamas, shirts, jeans, sheets, curtains...)
2) Cut or tear into lengths. I made my fabric strips about 10cm wide for lightweight cottons and 5cm wide for heavier fabrics)
3) Plait the lengths together into a single long rope. You can sew the ends of each strip to the previous one, or just tuck them in and keep plaiting.
4) Coil the plait up and sew it together into a giant round doily.

Voila! A new, old, shabby-chic, fashionable farmhouse rug! And warm feet on cold mornings!

I've been collecting clothes for years intending to do this. Wegot rid of carpets because of dust allergies. All my bags are in the roof space adding to insulation. I just put the ladder to the trapdoor every now and then and the cat jumps up and checks for mice and birds. She hasn't had any luck for a while though.
